The struggle continues

In addition, the whole cast has reprised their roles including the two mentioned main characters as well the villain (Jeanine) played by Oscar award winner Kate Winslet (Rose in Titanic, 1997). This film franchise has become one of the more enjoyed flicks as its 2014 installment Divergent became a commercial success with $288 million global box office figures, going pound to pound with other Sci-Fi thrillers like Hunger Games Mocking Jay.
Insurgent is a 2015 science fiction adventure based on the second book in the Divergent trilogy written by Veronica Roth.
The movie is directed by Robert Schwentke who took over from Neil Burger (Divergent). Schwentke is an action specialist; he’s directed Flightplan & Red 2005, 2010 amongst others respectively.
In the previous film, Tris was perceived as a special kind of people-‘Divergents’, who pose a anger to the future. Insurgent, has other twists, here is the detailed plot to get a clear understanding of this film.
“Insurgent raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite.
Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’ family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves being Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.”
Insurgent kicks off with some fascinating action with Tris going through a violent dream taking on the viewer to how it all started. Later the real action begins with Tris and Peter getting into a scuffle which the divergent Tris eventually wins proving herself as a warrior this sets the tone for the movie. Now the Insurgent is also driven by themes of power struggle, freedom, vengeance, class divisions, which puts the characters in conflict. In Insurgent is a quest of vengeance between the fugitives Tris and Four against Jeanine and her dauntless soldier commander Eric. But as to who succeeds between, the fugitive heroes or the ruthless leadership is what makes Insurgent interesting.
A notable scene that best depicts this raging conflict is when Jeanine sends Eric to attack the Candor (place where the most wanted Tris and Four were hiding) shooting everyone with a new simulation serum that can be activated by Jeanine herself, to control the host body.
This was one of the highlights of the movie totally on point, ironically most sequels often fail to live up to the standard set forth by the first movie but in this case, Insurgent is much more entertaining than Divergent.
The movie is also full of twists, deception and betrayals than keeps one on the edge, most notably Four’s hidden real name background as well as Peter’s betrayal to Tris and Four joining Jeaninie (Winslet)’s troops before she shows him how much he means to her when Tris holds Peter hostage at gunpoint “shoot him, I have plenty of guards” signalling Insurgent’s rather melo but intriguing humour.
Also in the first film divergents where deemed very dangerous because of their qualities, now in Insurgent new developments arise when a box of unknown origin containing the symbols of all the factions is discovered. Jeanine claims that she believes it to contain a message from the city’s founders, and the means to end the divergent problem once and for all.
However, only a special divergent can open the box, and she orders that all Divergents be hunted down and captured. Director Robert Schwentke really went all out in doing this movie creating an adventurous good and evil battle futuristic film packed with scintillating stuff that make it really fresh.
Why I am saying this, can be justified by the scene where Four and Tris stand for trial in Candor, being injected with an initiation truth syrum (painfully makes one speak only the truth). Apart from that, it goes without saying the Jeanine (played by Kate Winslet) is one of the pillars of this movie, the way she plays the cold ruthless leader villain just makes this movie fun to watch- she is a handful. All the events of the film take place in a dilapidated city of Chicago, remote jungles, and state of the art futuristic labs creating quite an adventurous appealing setting complementing the star-studded cast. The cinematography is exceptional and the 3D factor adds quality to the picture, compared to the Divergent edition.
A look at the box office and cinema reception shows that Insurgent stormed to ascend the chart to #1 upon its worldwide release this past Friday. The movie premiered with a stunning $52million gross, and already stands at $102million at global box office coming from a budget of $110million. With only one week in circuit Insurgent looks set to surpass its predecessor Divergent, which grossed $288 million dollars.
