Police statement on the arrest of journalist Daniel Kenosi

Police Arrest Suspect of Cybercrime

It is not our normal practice to discuss cases that are still under investigations, let alone to share details of suspects before they appear before court for mention.

However, we have been inundated with enquiries both from media and some individuals following the arrest of a certain Mr. Daniel Kenosi.

We confirm that Mr Kenosi (24) was arrested on Tuesday 24th March 2015 after appearing for mention at Gaborone Magistrate court on two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and failure to stop and report an accident contrary to Road Traffic Act. Apparently these offences were committed on September 28th 2014.

The latest arrest follows investigations on different matters. He is in fact a suspect in a case of unlawful distribution of pornographic or obscene material contrary to section 16 of the Cybercrime and Computer Related Crimes Act.

Mr Kenosi is also facing a criminal defamation charge contrary to section 192 of Penal Code in Francistown and a warrant of his arrest was issued by Francistown Magistrate court.
