Senyaka is no more

The artiste, known for hits such as Fong Kong and Chesa Mpama, was planning on releasing a new album in a near future, according to South African media. Senyaka was very popular within the Southern African region.

His recent visit to Botswana was in October 2014 when he performed at a Splash Show at the National Stadium along other former stars Thiza, Zizi Congo, Sox, Mercy Pakale and Pat Shange.

South Africa Minister of Sports and Culture Fikile Mbalula expressed shock at the news of Senyaka’s passing. “It is a huge loss. Senyaka contributed immensely to arts and culture in the country.

His death came as a shock… it came like a Tsunami because we did not expect it, as we never heard of him being sick. Just a month ago I was listening to Senyaka with T-bo Touch on Metro FM. He was saying that he is planning on releasing an album,” he said.

The controversial musician-cum-actor will be remembered for his role in the movie Moruti wa tsotsi among other accomplishments. He caused a storm several years ago with the release of his song, Romeo wa nkolota.

The track was not only popular for its humorous lyrical content but it was also alleged that the song was a direct attack on former radio boss Romeo Khumalo who Senyaka berated for denying another controversial song, O maponapona satane airplay. Senyaka had submitted the song for a gospel program but Khumalo apparently felt it was not suitable for the show.
