LAHISA holds inaugural games

The games would be played under the theme ‘Enhancing productivity and unity at work through sports.’

Speaking at a press conference in Gaborone recently, LAHISA project manager, Lisiemang Lisiemang, said the games will not only promote healthy lifestyles, but will also align to the 2016 pillar of a healthy nation. “There will be 22 teams that will compete from all over Botswana. Sporting codes that will take place include volleyball, chess and a 10km fun run,” Lisiemang said.

LAHISA president, Kagiso Keitumetse outlined that the association is a combination of the Ministry of Lands and Housing, Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government and Ministry of Health.

“LAHISA focuses on public servants healthy living through involvement in sporting activities,” Keitumetse added.

President Ian Khama launched LAHISA in 2013. He said they look forward to collaborating with the Botswana National Sport Council (BNSC). “We took an initiative to be a member of BNSC so that we can collaborate for sport effectiveness, ” he said.

Keitumetse also revealed that they have a sponsorship agreement with Dlala clothing to assist members with apparel. The association falls under Southern Africa Inter- Municipalities Sports Association (SAIMSA), which its member states are South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho, Zambia, Namibia and Botswana.  LAHISA will send a team to Lesotho in September to take part in SAIMSA games.
