Prophet swindles businessman of P79000

Commanding officer in District 11, Superintendent Kevin Mookodi confirmed that they have registered the case.

“A man from Ramotswa has reported to have been victimised by a Thamaga woman who is a prophet. The man said he deposited cash amounting to P79 000 on monthly installments to the woman who had promised him that he would pray for him and his businesses to succeed.   He only realised that he has been swindled after his businesses went down under instead of experiencing wonders that the prophet had promised.” Mookodi said.

Mookodi added that the man started depositing money in 2013 and only reported his ordeal to the police in February 2015.“The charge’s that the suspect can possibly face is common theft which if found guilty the suspect faces a term not exceeding three years imprisonment. Mookodi said the suspect is not under detention.

Speaking to the complainant The Monitor learnt that the victim deposited cash amounting to P1 800 on weekly bases, P7 200 on Monthly bases and that only P9 000 has been paid back.” I stopped depositing cash to the woman in January 2015 when I realised that there were no positive changes in my businesses,” said Tlhomole.

He further added that he knew the suspect through his cousin.” My cousin introduced me to the lady when I told him I was sick. Upon arrival at the woman’s house, she told me that I have more problems than I thought. She told me that my business, house and car have been affected. It was then  that  she ordered me to bring my business returns to her to bless them.

What fascinated me was the fact that she uses only the bible to heal people,” said Gobuamang.

Superintendent Mookodi said the case was the first of its kind in his policing area.” We normally hear about these cases in other districts but this is the first case of its kind to register in our policing area.,” said Mookodi.
