UB Rhinos started as the bullies, dominating the first 15 minutes of the match pressing BDF Cheetahs in their own half. Kaelo Mogotsi secured an early penalty for UB Rhinos in the 10th minute.

Immediately after the penalty, BDF Cheetahs upped their game and laid a solid foundation on their defence and sharpened their attacking system, which not only loosened but also revealed the loopholes in the UB Rhinos’s defence. Due to pressure, UB Rhinos players committed a number of fouls that resulted in a number of fouls.  The teams went for half time with BDF Cheetahs leading 9- 6. There were no tries or conversions with all the scores coming from penalties. In the second half, UB Rhinos came back as a better side.

Their defence was more solid and the introduction of Givemore Chawata added more firepower, giving BDF Cheetahs players a hard time.  Bafana tried to convert a try for his team after slicing through their rivals, but his effort was fruitless as they tackled him before reaching the trial line. In the dying moments of the game, UB Rhinos managed to get its first try through Tshepang Kasekao. After the match, the BDF coach Mmoloki Moroke stated that he was satisfied by the way his troops played even though they lost. “They played according to our plan. We have seen our mistakes and we will correct them. Next time when we play UB, we will stage a tough fight,” he said.
