Lotsane students, teachers, Scotland bound for benchmarking

School’s deputy Head, James Ponoesele, said 10 of their best students, five boys and five girls will be accompanied by three teachers on a two-week benchmarking trip.

The teachers are, the school head, Art teacher and Guidance and Counselling teacher.

“We used last year’s midyear examination results to choose our Top 10 students, which is the group which has been accorded the opportunity to travel this year. “So all the students who are leaving are doing Form 5 and we believe this will motivate others to work extra hard,” Ponoesele said.

He said that the school had been involved in a Global School Partnership programme with Charleston Academy School in Scotland since 2009. He added that this is an initiative that promotes partnerships between schools in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.

The programme is run by the British Council, which provides advice and guidance, professional development opportunities and grants to schools that are using school partnerships as a means for developing a global dimension within the curriculum, Ponoesele further said.

He said the Charleston Academy School has the subjects that are taught in Botswana and therefore the students will not struggle to grasp what they are being taught.

Ponoesele said that the school would also give the students an opportunity to share their experiences with their schoolmates during assembly times.

According to him, Lotsane Senior is benefitting from the global partnership in terms of educational programmes, culture awareness, sharing learning ideas, sustainable activities, community involvement and partnerships.

He also added that they benefit in sports equipment and educational necessities such as books from the Scots.
