Zhizha returns to Kuminda Farm

Organiser, Lucy Hinchliffe said Zhizha is the place to discover and taste amazing wholesome food that is not always found in daily meals.

This year’s event promises to be more exciting as alongside the food demonstration, various traditional forms of cultural entertainment will be offered. Hinchliffe said traditional games, dance, music and poetry will be offered from different tribes.

She said that this year they are expecting a Bayeyi traditional group from Maun to provide unique entertainment at their Ikalanga event. Hinchliffe said that they would also be introducing Sesarwa dance popularly known as Boro to be performed by a Basarwa group from Lepashe village.

The organiser said it is their mandate to educate people on different cultures found in Botswana and will continue to introduce other tribes to spice up the event. “I am very excited that this year the event will be offering other traditional cultures.  People will have the opportunity to learn Seyeyi and Sesarwa cultures,” said Hinchliffe.

She explained that there is a possibility that they will provide dishes from Basarwa and Bayeyi groups.  Therefore, people should come ready to explore other tribe’s dishes.

She said Kalanga dishes would be prepared with fresh ingredients from this year’s harvest season.  Dishes to be served include Bogobe jwa lerotse popularly known as thopi in the Kalanga area, bogobe jwa Mmidi, Chimoni (Samp with ground nuts, beans, ditloo), Samp, dried maize with beans (Mauru), pounded goat meat (seswaa sa podi), Serobe, Delele, Dobi (pounded dry red meat mixed with peanuts) morogo wa dinawa mixed with groundnuts, phane, tswana chicken, madila (sour milk), beef stew and others.

She said that they would also prepare traditional Setswana beer as refreshment for elders. Ikalanga traditional groups offering different dances from Ramokgwebana, Jackalas No 1, Nswazwi and Marobela accompanied by popular musician Ndingo Johwa are also expected to provide entertainment.
