The court could not proceed with the case without Ngakaagae.  Therefore the matter was postponed to March 31. Masilo who did not show up in his last court appearance was supposed to verify allegations of abuse by the police and prison officials. Ngakaagae raised allegations of abuse on his client during the last mention, but his absence meant that Masilo could not go ahead with his testimony. “I ask the court to postpone this matter for another date because Ngakaagae is not here today and nothing can go forward without him,” said Masilo before the court.

He told the court that efforts to reach Ngakaagae were futile as his phone was unreachable.

When contacted for comment later, Ngakaagae told Mmegi that he was at the Regional Magistrate at the time of Masilo’s court appearance.

“The intention was to go to Village Magistrate afterwards,” he said.

The prosecutor in the case, Christinah Ramokwena, was also not present and her replacement on the day, Kopo Chibana, told the court that she was not well.  Rabakwena was also expected to present an update concerning the allegations of abuse raised by Ngakaagae on behalf of his client during the last court appearance.

“We still do not have an update concerning the allegations presented by Ngakaagae during the last mention,“ said Chibana. Masilo is facing fresh charges of robbery and indecent assault.
