State wants blood sample from Kanye robbery suspect

On Friday, Kanye Principal Magistrate, Janet Phosa ordered that Malibongwe Moyo appear in court to allow the State to apply for a sample to be taken from him.
The blood will be tested against blood recovered from bank notes allegedly seized during the robbery.
Moyo, who was shot on the leg during the robbery, failed to appear in court.
This was his first absence since the four suspects were recently denied bail. Prosecution officer, Goitsemang Sekgabo told the court that investigations were still ongoing and the suspect who was not in court had continuously refused to provide his blood sample, which was crucial for the investigations.
Sekgabo requested that Moyo be brought to court so they can make an application to draw his blood sample. “The suspect has missed court knowing that we are here to ask that we be allowed to get his blood, which could be a breakthrough in our investigations,” he said.
Sekgabo further said the suspect had refused to come to court despite necessary arrangements having been made to ferry him to court given his condition. “We had made necessary arrangements and we even sent a specialised ambulance for the suspect to be brought to court. However, when the ambulance got there he refused to be ferried to court,” he said.
Sekgabo also said the money recovered from the suspects after the robbery had blood on it and investigators suspect it could belong to Moyo. “The money recovered from the first suspect had a lot of blood but he was not injured at all.
We suspect the blood belongs to Moyo because other suspects tried running away with him before they dumped him a few kilometers from the crime scene,” he said.
However, Moyo’s attorney, Sesupo Masaka, told court that his client was in critical condition and thus unable to come to court. “My client is not well and is not in anyway refusing to let his blood sample be taken,” he said. Meanwhile, Moyo and his three co-accused are expected back in court on March 26, 2014 for mention.
The four face counts of armed robbery, murder, attempted murder, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunitions.
Two other suspects are on the run, while one was killed during the shootout on January 29, in which a policeman was also shot dead.
