Ten groups walk Chibuku Road to Fame

Twenty-four groups, drawn from six different regions across the country, competed against each other at the Francistown Stadium from 10am until 6pm in a bid to secure themselves a place at the finals. Music groups, which have qualified for the Chibuku Road to Fame finals, will clash on March 28, 2015 in Lobatse. This year’s finalists are Micheal Monang, Kagiso Thabano, Kamogelo Makgetho, Obvious Mushozheli, Tally, Oteng Kefilwe and Chilume Mbengwa and three others whose names could not be ascertained at press time.
Competitors are drawn from six regions, which were visited during the preliminary rounds where talent was identified. The music groups were given a golden opportunity to walk the road to fame thanks to Chibuku.
Chibuku, the commercial traditional brew brand of Kgalagadi Breweries Limited (KBL), has found it fit to give back to the community.
While guzzlers will be celebrating the competitions held on the sidelines of the talent shows, artists are all smiles as they have found a platform to live their dream of becoming professional musicians.
There was free entertainment from Slizer (Naledi Kaisara), Charma Gal (Magdalene Lesolebe-Mogwe) and Gongmaster (Mponang Ketshabile), who made special appearances. Twenty-seven-year-old Monang, who took first position out of the 10 finalists, is confident that he will walk away the winner at the finals slated for Lobatse. After winning the ultimate prize, Monang said his wish is to become one of the most respected artists in the country. The Majwaneng-born folklore artist, who performed Nkele Wa Masemo, during the competition is confident of being crowned the winner. The winner of the finals will walk away with P100,000, while second group will walk away with P50,000. The third prize money stands at P25,000. Chibuku Road to Fame was launched last year. The main objective of the talent-search competition is to promote young aspiring musicians to interact with established artists so as to assist them to record their music.
