BOKA exit: Andrew Dobolo and Seikokai have quit Botswana Karate Association

The style joined BOKA last year after its formation. Seikokai chief instructor, Dobolo told Mmegi Sport that he decided to terminate membership from the association because he wants to focus on his life.

He stated that the federation still exists at the Registrar of Societies.  He explained that he has spent a lot of time in karate and that has created a gap in his life.

He said there was nothing forcing him or his style to quit BOKA.  Despite that, he mentioned that he was still conducting some sessions for the members.

Dobolo formed Seikokai in 2014 after he was expelled by Ryushin Kan Africa in 2013.

“I have decided to concentrate on my job because I have been focusing a lot on karate.  “I have achieved a lot in the sport and do not think anybody will match me any time soon,” he explained.

BOKA chairperson, David Mathe said he was surprised to learn about the decision Dobolo had taken.

He said they received the termination letter on Thursday.

Mathe explained that BOKA has informed Seikokai to submit minutes from a meeting that took the decision to terminate the membership.  He said BOKA was yet to inform other affiliates and Botswana National Sports Council about the matter.

He said it was not a good thing for an affiliate to quit because that affected the growth of karate in the country. “We have been thinking that we are growing as an association. I am aware that some people do not recognise Seikokai because it joined BOKA last year and did not have many members, but the little that they had made a difference to BOKA,” said the disappointed Mathe.

He explained that the decision would have an impact on the students because they would not be allowed to participate in BOKA tournaments or be selected for the national team.

Mathe said Dobolo was a technical person and a referee. He added that the Seikokai chief instructor was still youth when he retired as an athlete in 2008.

“In three years time he had formed Ryushin Kan, but due to lots of misunderstandings in the organisation, he was expelled.

“BOKA tried to intervene without any luck. His arrival in the BOKA executive committee was too early. He lost focus on developing his style,” he said.
