Miscellaneous promotion bid suffers setback

Going into the match, the visitors needed only six points from their next five games in order to win automatic promotion to the elite league.

The draw now leaves Miscellaneous needing five points to gain promotion, as they would have attained an unassailable lead of 46 points.

The draw also left Tigers at position eight with 19 points. The Maun outfit trails both Tsabothe and TASC by a goal difference.

Mahalapye Hotspurs consolidated their second place when they continued their good run with 1-0 win at TASC.  The loss left TASC still rooted at position seven with 19 points while Hotspurs has 33 points from 18 matches played so far.

Other clubs in the top five that also have a chance to earn a second play-off spot also enjoyed a good run over the weekend.

Third placed Green Lovers defeated neighbours Palapye FC 4-0 in Serowe. Lovers are now four points behind second placed Hotspurs.

Fourth placed Kazungula Young Fighters capitalised on their home advantage to defeat Amakhosi 2-1 in a weekend in which Francistown clubs, with the exception of TAFIC, performed badly. TAFIC that have launched a late fight-back for a second play off spot, remain at position five, five points behind Hotspurs. TAFIC registered their fifth straight win against bottom placed Great North Tigers (GNT) in a clash marred by controversial officiating.

The loss left GNT rooted at the bottom with 16 points from their 18 matches. Tigers share a similar number of points as Palapye FC though the latter has a healthier goal difference. Tonota, that are also fighting for survival, have also managed 17 points and are now a point above the relegation zone.
