Westwood fires headmaster

He becomes the seventh headmaster to be fired in 13 years. The sacking coincides with the school posting disastrous performance in the just released  senior secondary schools results.

The Chairwoman of the School Council, Brit Macfarlane announced on Thursday that she and the Council have taken over leadership of the school. The school has no Deputy Head and has only recently appointed a Head of the Primary School.

At a heated meeting between the parents and the Council on Thursday evening, parents told the Council that they had no confidence in their leadership and demanded an explanation for the sacking of the headmaster.

The Council announced that a new Head teacher has been identified in Mafikeng. Parents said they are aware that this new Head was approached before any decision to take disciplinary action against Gallinger was taken.

Westwood School has a history of troubled relationships between the Council and head teachers and parents for over a decade and according to some parents, the Council has interfered in the running of the school for too long.
