Comedians pull big stunts

The funny men included Umbambi ‘Bambino’ Ndiwenyu, Tulani Tau and television presenter-cum comedian Prince Macheng, Tulani Tau and television presenter- cum comedian Prince Macheng, Zimbabwean comic Charles Manase and Congolese Glodi ‘Dr Smile’ Kngunza.
The MC of the night Isaac Lungu set the tone for the night when he spoke in a Julius Malema tone voice 4G technology should be changed names to ‘All systems down’ because its services are always down.
The comedians presented new and indigenous jokes that related with the current events that are taking place in the country.
Dressed formally in a grey pair of trousers and a matching shirt but spotting a bucket hat, Macheng, without introducing himself wondered if white South African women managed to survive Valentines Day as he shouted, “Oscar changed the game for white couples.” He continued with the valentine joke saying Oscar shot at Reeva Steenkamp after she had bought him a pair of socks which the athlete found insulting and offensive. The comedian spoke about different issues ranging from homosexuality, Mugabe falling from the airplane stairs and the trending Modipane sex tape.
“A sexual three sum is no longer called a three sum but its now called a Modipane,” he said, sending the crowd into teary laughter.
Comics took turns tickling the crowd until the reigning Soul Food Comedy champion Tulani Tau broke a joke about the water shortages in Gaborone. The pint-sized comedian said due to the water shortages locals will no longer be called Batswana but Manyora due to thirst. “If its one person they are called Lenyora but if they are many they are called Manyora,” he said. He also touched on the Modipane issue saying Botswana has managed to outclass Hollywood with the a new version of 50 Shades of Grey called 50 Shades of Modipane, “It takes a smart phone and three naked kids to film 50 Shades of Modipane,” he said.
Bambino showcased his multi linguistic skills as he started his set singing the famous La Bamba song in Spanish while his international counterparts Charles Manase and Mr Smile were not shy to say jokes about their nationalities and experiences as foreigners.
Mr Smile boasted about how rich DRC is “Our riches range from Diamonds to Ebola,” he said.
