Rail Giants in sweet revenge against BDF IX

It was a sweet revenge for Rail Giants that were beaten in last year’s finals by BDF IX.

BDF IX coach, James Moremodi praised the Malahapye side for being on top of their game. The Botswana Railways team has become one of the forces to reckon with in local softball. Rails Giants that were in a devastating form, crashed Vikings 10-0 in another game, to cement their place in the next stages of the tournament.

But, BDF IX came back strongly in their next game against Gatalamotho, beating the Jwaneng side 6-2.  BDF IX registered their first run in the first inning.   But Gatalamotho came into the game with their guns smoking at bottom one.   They never showed any respect to their decorated opponents.  At some stage, they had BDF IX in all sorts of troubles. It did not come as a surprise when Gatalamotho registered two points in the first inning.  But, the question was, would Gata be able to sustain the tempo. Can they fight to the bitter finish?

Both teams did not register any runs in the second inning.  But the soldiers were in a combative mood in the third inning as they took the game to their opponents.  They were prepared for war as they scored three runs past the hapless Gatalamotho. Gatalamotho started to crack in top four inning, leading to the army men registering two more runs. With Gatalamotho failing to make a come back, the game was ended at bottom four. At this stage, it became clear that the game was beyond their reach.  Gatalanotho coach, Diaz Pheko said they lost the game by committing elementary errors.  He said they started well, but panicked midway in the game. Pheko said they threw the ball to the wrong areas and were punished.  He said their preparations for the Top 8 games were good.  He revealed that they had a good number of players for training in Jwaneng including those who are based in Gaborone.  “We became a unit,” he said. Gatalamotho, Vikings, BDF IX and Rail Giants were slotted  in the first bracket that formed the  men’s team.  The second bracket of the men’s teams was made up of Wells, Police IX, Panthers and Carats. The women’s first bracket composed of Dinare, BDF IX, Vikings and Rail Giants.  Police IX, Panthers, Wells and Comets were in the second bracket. Meanwhile, in other men’s games, Wells demolished Carats 10-0 while Panthers crashed Police IX 6-1. Police IX made a come back in their next game and beat Carats 6-4. Wells trounced Panthers 5-3 but in the last game, Panthers managed to beat Carats 5-2.

In the women’s games, one of the oldest clubs, Dinare beat BDF IX 9-7. Police IX thrashed Comets 14-2 while Vikings walloped Rail Giants 10-5.  In their second game, Police IX were drubbed 4-0 by Wells while Dinare beat Vikings 7-4  Panthers defeated Comets 9-6.
