The members said this when they were debating the recurrent budget for the ministry last week.

Francistown East MP Buti Billy said some youth end up going to the bars because of lack of entertainment facilities.

“There is high employment rate among youth and therefore entertainment facilities would keep our youth busy.

“In Francistown the situation is worse, therefore I request the minister to build one in our town.

Something has to be done to keep our youth busy,” Billy said.

The MP said it is important that artistes are supported and promoted because they create jobs for other youth.

He said artistes play vital role in the society hence they needed government’s support.

“ It is important for this ministry to be hands on, on issues that affect artistes. Some people are taking advantage of our youth, especially those who practise piracy.

“Stiff action needs to be taken against shop owners and individuals who encourage it,” he said.

Debating the issue, Okavango MP Bagalatia Arone said youth in rural areas should not be neglected when entertainment facilities are being built.

“In our area, young people have different talents and I believe the Okavango area would be considered if entertainment areas are being built.

“It is also important for the ministry to fence and take care of those areas after building them,” Arone said.

He said some musicians in his area need to be helped with recording studios since some people take advantage of their music because it is not recorded.

Arone said music does help people from all across to unite and appreciate other people’s cultures.
