Little Miss Universe pageant comes to Botswana

Thanks to Tebogo Lebanna, who has been given a licence to host the pageant by The Kingdom of Universal Production, will be hosting its 10th anniversary. The anniversary is of Children’s International Festival of Culture, Style and Arts at Georgia in Europe.
According to Lebanna, this pageant is open for children aged four to 15, but she opted to take in seven-year-old to 14-year-old girls instead.
“This is an international event and the only pageant that deals with children. It will give our children an opportunity to learn and build relationships with children from other countries,” she said.
She added that the pageant would also sell the country, as the young ones will be showcasing culture and teach the world about the riches of this country.
She said that they had already conducted auditions countrywide where they picked 18 beautiful and talented children who will be battling it out for the crown at Gaborone International Conference Centre (GICC) on the mentioned date from 2pm to 6pm
“We want to groom our girls from grassroot level for the international pageant. We want them to grow up to be more sophisticated, brave and intelligent young women who will be able to stand before their age mates and showcase their talent. This pageant will also help them know what is expected of them when they compete internationally,” she added.
She said that the girls will be judged for their talent and that there would be cultural festival shows, parades and questions like any other pageants.
Lebanna said that she was confident that the pageant would be able to produce beauty queens who would make the country proud like Mpule Kwelagobe did in 1999 at the age of 19.
International festival Little Miss Universe was founded in 2005. The festival was made for boys and girls who compete for the crowns and cups in each of the age categories and the main crowns of Little Miss Universe and Little Mr Universe.
The festival aimed at cultural exchange, widening children’s outlook, promotion of love and friendship between people of different races and nationalities.
“Come witness the crowning of the ultimate queen. Tickets are sold for P300 per adult and P150 for children aged 16 years and below,” she said.
