Softball battle for P100,000 intensifies

The teams- both men and women- would be trimmed to the last four, who will then proceed to contest the finals next month. In the men’s teams, only two are from the north, Rail Giants of Mahalapye and Selebi-Phikwe side, Comets made it to the quarterfinals.

Teams from the south BDF IX, Police IX, Wells, Gatalamotho, Vikings and Carats complete the line up.  

Proof that the P100, 000 prize money has raised stakes, top sides Bears and Dinare were elbowed out. Teams from the south also dominated the women’s section with Police IX, BDF IX, Panthers, Vikings, Dinare and Wells in the last eight while Comets and Rail Giants carry the north’s hope.  University of Botswana, National Diamond and Dinare grounds host the top eight games, starting tomorrow until Sunday.

In the Saturday matches, BDF IX play Rail Giants at the National Diamond, while Police IX face Panthers at the UB grounds. Wells and Carats play at the Dinare ground. In the women’s matches on Saturday, Dinare slugs it out with BDF IX, Police IX take on Comets while Vikings play Rail Giants.

 In the second kick-off for men’s games Police IX face Carats at the same time as Rail Giants engage Vikings. Around lunch time, the second women’s fixtures start with BDF IX taking on Wells, Dinare against Vikings while Panthers play Comets.

In the afternoon, Wells face Panthers while Gatalamotho play Vikings in the men’s league.

BDF IX will be up against Rail Giants and Wells confront Comets in the women’s section.

On Sunday, BDF IX (men) takes on Gatalamotho in the morning with another clash between Panthers and Carats.  Wells women face Panthers as Dinare takes on Rail Giants.   Wells play Police IX while Rail Giants clashes with Gatalamotho.

The last women’s matches will see Police IX versus Panthers while another fixture is between BDF IX and Vikings.  The final men’s clash is between softball giants BDF IX and Vikings.    .   

BSA received a major financial boost last year when BOFINET sponsored the league for P1 million, the largest ever sponsorship amount for softball. The champions for both men’s and women’s team will walk away with P100, 000.
