DJ Izzys tribute to Nijel Amos

The track, which was released on Monday features Channel O award winner Zeus, A.T.I and seasoned rapper Scar.

DJ Izzy said he recorded the track after he won a Yarona FM music award last year.

“After winning that award, I felt like I should record a celebratory song that talks about achievements.”

The track talks about one being a winner. It highlights Amos’s achievements, especially being the first Motswana to win an Olympic medal, and being the first Motswana world athletics champion.

DJ Izzy follows in the footsteps of prolific performers like Dramaboi, Casper Nyovest and Rick Ross who have titled their tracks after stars such as Bob Marley, Doc Shebeleza and MC Hammer respectively.

“Naming a song after a star is the current trend these days, both locally and internationally,” he said.

The club DJ, who is also a radio presenter on Yarona FM, performed the song for the first time at the BIUST bash this  past weekend.  He said revellers enjoyed the new number.

The young DJ believes working with different rappers on his track will encourage the spirit of unity among local hip-hop artistes.

“I featured three great rappers in the game and I am hoping that other artists will start working together after this track,” he said.

DJ Fauz, who is also a graphic designer, designed the promotional cover photo for the track.

The youthful DJ started a campaign on social networks last year prompting his fans to say who they would like see featured on the track.

Zeus, Scar and A.T.I. topped the stakes. After the campaign, he started posting promotional videos of the track online which had a great following, especially on Twitter.

Music crazy Amos, who has also tried his hand in music as DJ Zoro, is excited about the track released in his honor.

The world 800 metres star has been tweeting about the song since the idea of recording was mooted.

DJ Izzy said he will be releasing his much anticipated debut album this year titled ‘The Best Next DJ’. He has expressed his desire to, and is looking forward to working with the likes of Vee, Sasa Klaas, Burna Boy and AKA.

The song has a catchy international sound that might be a club banger. It was produced by DJ Scratch and engineered by DJ Kuchi.

DJ Izzy performed at Big Brother Hot Shots last year at one of the housemates’ weekend parties.
