Speaking from his constituency office yesterday Davids said that like most people he learnt about this on Facebook and after a number of them, including Mochudi West MP Gilbert Mangole, phoned him.

“I am not on Facebook or Twitter. Someone is busy posting allegations on Facebook about me that I have rejoined BDP and I assure people in my constituency and the entire membership of the Botswana National Front and UDC that this is a blue lie,” he said.

Davids said he was committed to the BNF and the UDC and that he won his Parliamentary seat under the UDC ticket.

“Therefore I cannot rejoin the BDP, a party that failed me,” he said. He added that he did not know who was behind the Facebook post.  Davids said that this is not the first time pranksters have posted false messages about politicians on Facebook.

They did that with Ndaba Gaolathe of Botswana Movement of Democracy and with the Botswana Congress Party’s (BDP) Chilliboy Rakgare that they had rejoined the BDP.

Davids said he remained a committed member of the UDC.

“The people of Mochudi East should rest assured that I have not joined BDP and as I am talking to you right now I am busy communicating to the electorates.  Very soon we will be moving from ward to ward erecting structures and constituency committees,” he explained.

Davids defeated Mpho Moruakgomo of the BDP and Isaac Mabiletsa of BCP in the last general elections.

In 1999 he won the Kgatleng East Parliamentary seat under the BDP ticket, but lost to Mabiletsa in 2004 and 2009. He bounced back in 2014, this time around under the UDC ticket.
