Former My Star contestant to create gospel ensemble

The youngster held auditions last Saturday to identify youngsters who could make up the group called We Must Praise.
He said at the auditions that the aim is to create quality music that would qualify the group for international stages.
“Our focus is on the youth; many young people have music talent but they are not utilising it.
“So we want our music from Botswana to make an impact in the world through the youth,” Vusi said.
Out of 120 contestants auditioned only seven people have been selected to join the group, taking the total number of members to 15.
“We are currently focusing on the youth. Right now we only have vocalists but we are looking for instrumentalists.
“We have about two of them (instrumentalists), but we want more skilled people to join us,” he said.
He said they wanted to change the gospel landscape in Botswana saying the genre was yet to penetrate the international market.
“We want to create the music that qualifies for the international standards. “We have never heard the gospel music originating from Botswana in the international markets. We want to reach the market like Joyous Celebration,” said Vusi.
Vusi has also finished his first single track I have never seen anybody like you, which he said will be officially launched after the group is established.
After passing the auditions, Gabonakgosi Koneno who is also a student at Botswana Accountancy College said he was optimistic that the group will take local gospel music to another level once it starts functioning.
“Gospel music in Botswana is dormant. I believe through this group we will be able to take it far and reach the international stage like artists from other countries,” Koneno said.
