After powering to gold in the Africa Junior Championships, which ended in Ethiopia on Sunday, the junior team did the victory lap without a national flag.

The team won the race in 3:11:00, but their moment of glory suffered a knock when they failed to get a flag for their victory lap.

BAA public relations officer, Roland Masalila said they would wait for an official explanation from the team manager when the team arrives today.

However, reports are that Dube might have forgotten to take flags to the stadium.

The victorious team consisted of Karabo Sibanda, Baboloki Thebe, Loungo Scotch and Unoda Keetile.

Despite the embarrassment, the athletics team put on a good performance, winning three medals, one silver and two gold medals. The country had sent 16 athletes and three officials to Ethiopia.

Meanwhile, Masalila denied reports the association is broke and was forced to cut down the team to Ethiopia.

“There are only two athletes who did not travel to the competition and this is because of the school holidays and visas, not that the association its having financial problems,” he said.

Masalila also denied athletes on BAA scholarship outside the country are set to return home. He said only one athlete has since returned home, but did not want to go into details, saying it is a sensitive issue.

He added the affected athlete’s parents have asked the association to refrain from talking about the issue. Masalila referred Mmegi Sport to BAA treasurer, Brian Mosweu on the association’s financial position. However, Mosweu was not reachable on his mobile.
