Rhinos fundraising coordinator, Munya Mhonda said the deal also includes sports nutrition supplements for the club and its members at subsidised prices.

Mhonda said the aim of the club is to continue to develop players and defend the league title. He added that a lot of players left the club and they have since recruited new ones who are yet to gel.

Medswana representative and USN Botswana brand manager, Denise Kamyuka said the partnership with Rhinos was a good fit for each of the brands, as they look to develop and change mindsets towards healthy living.

She explained that sports nutrition is mostly associated with weightlifting, but that is not the case. She said other codes should include sports nutrition in their programmes.

“Batswana are physically smaller than other Africans, but they are expected to be competitive. For you to go anywhere, you should be tougher hence the need to embrace sports nutrition,” she said.

The director of sports at UB, Professor Martin Mokgwathi said rugby has always been synonymous with the institution. He said Rhinos has always had players who were passionate about the sport over the years.

He said the university has a limited budget and the partnership from USN and Medswana will go a long way in assisting the club.  Mokgwathi said other businesses should learn from the partnership because it will give them mileage.

Meanwhile, Rhinos chairperson Thatayaone Malele told Mmegi Sport after the launch that the absence of EMG Gunners in the Botswana Rugby Union (BRU) A Division League will affect the level of the competition this season. He said the club had professional players who always gave their all even in the national team.

He said Rhinos have recruited four girls from Letlhakane to be part of the women’s team and one male from EMG Gunners who has joined the A Division side.

Malele said Rhinos as USN and Medswana brand ambassadors, will ensure they improve and surpass all expectations from the sponsor and its stakeholders. Rhinos will play in the Intervarsity games against Lesotho and Swaziland this week.
