The district was also 2013 PSLE winners with 82.6 percent and had intended to hit the 90 percent in 2014, but failed to reach the target by 5.4 percent.  The ceremony was held under the theme, ‘Motivation-A strategic way to quality results’.

Satellite Primary School head Lore Lungisani said teachers are the builders of the nation who should be acknowledged for the hard work and good results. She said that it was a significant honour to celebrate with teachers and appreciate the great effort they put in to achieve excellent results.

When giving a motivational speech, director of Regional Operations-North East, Oupa Masesane said teachers should be motivated by the results that they have produced. “Our region is known for our culture of hard work.

These good results are a sign of dedication and should be an encouragement for better performance next year,” he said. Masesane applauded parent’s involvement in pupils work saying they played a major role to ensure that children take their schoolwork seriously.  He disclosed that in preparing for the examinations the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) within the schools came with a strategy and followed the low performing students at their homes. “They talked to the parents of the students in order to find a way of involving them in their children’s education and this really worked,” he said.

Masesane also disclosed that the district also scooped position one in Junior Certificate (JC) results with 49,6 percent but attained 30,9 percent pass rate in recent released Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE). “I am proud to reveal that Mater Spei College took position two with Masunga Senior improving from position 16 to position seven,” he said. Masesane also said the good news is that Francistown Senior Secondary School (FSS) is one of the most improved schools this year moving from position 26 with 18,8 percent in 2013 to position eight this year with 27.26 percent.

He said that they managed to improve their results after introducing vacation teaching early last year to prepare for the examinations.  Masesane further said that they also instilled discipline amongst students and the good behaviour resembled in their good results. “These are remarkable results worth celebrating. I am proud to be associated with this region.

Lets start preparing now for this year’s exams. Remember that our target is 95 percent this year,” he said. Masesane added that he is aware of challenges besieging schools, but propelled learners to work hard either way.

Giving the keynote address, Francistown Deputy District Commissioner, Boyce Mangole said the results had made the city proud and applauded teachers for the good work they have displayed over the years. He encouraged junior and senior schools to surpass the results attained by primary schools in the cluster. Mangole said that education is vital and teachers should be proud of their achievements.

He also encouraged teachers to continue taking NED to greater heights.

PTA chairperson Didimalang Bukha congratulated teachers for the good work promising that parents would continue to play an active role in their children’s education. “Gone are the days where teachers were blamed for poor results, we are in this together, we commit to play a major role in our children’s studies,” said Bukha.
