IEC owes 4,355 teachers

Presidential Affairs and Public Administration minister, Eric Molale, said the IEC engaged 9,691 teachers in the 2014 general elections. To date only 5,336 have been paid.

“It is expected that the remaining 4,355 teachers would have been paid their overtime allowances by the end of the financial year on 31st March, 2015. “Currently the remaining teachers are being paid through a ‘special dispensation’ that allows their payments to be effected separately from their monthly salaries in an endeavour to speed up the payment process, which is proving to be effective since the teachers are being paid in large numbers,” he said.

The MP for Ramotswa, Samuel Rantuana had asked Molale to state when the teachers who were selected as election officers during the 2014 general elections would be paid for the work they did.
