Octogenarian murdered in Mathangwane

Tatitown Police Station commander, Superintendent Cyprian Magalila said the 88-year-old woman was living alone.

He said the police were alerted about the death by the woman’s children who had visited her at the lands on Sunday night. “On arrival the police found the old woman lying in a pool of blood with fresh injuries, raising suspicion that she might have been stabbed with something sharp,” he said. Magalila added that they have not arrested anyone yet in connection to the crime. He pleaded with the public to help with information that can lead to arrest of suspects. “We are waiting for postmortem results to determine the cause of death. The deceased’s body is currently at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital (NRH) mortuary,” said Magalila.

He expressed concern that this is the third murder case in his beat this year. “Even though in the past two cases we managed to arrest suspects, murder cases are a concern to us,” he said. Unconfirmed reports have linked illegal immigrants from Zimbabwe to the murder. It is said the deceased had a misunderstanding with the duo over labour issues.  Magalila warned members of the public to refrain from employing illegal immigrants because of the risks involved.
