Sitting precariously at position 15 in the league after accumulating a paltry 16 points from 21 outings, the green side of Francistown have found the going tough after severing ties with former sponsor, BMC.

ECCO lost a number of influential players at the start of the season due to their poor financial situation.

And now the club is considering a move away from the Francistown Stadium in search of better fortunes.

ECCO’s spokesperson Dingalo Dickson Ditsheko, confirmed they are on the verge of permanently using the Serowe Sports Complex as their home ground.

“It has been observed that soccer fans in Francistown only attend games when their team is doing well,” Ditsheko explained.

However, he was quick to point out that the decision to take the games to Serowe is not yet final.

Ditsheko added that taking games to Serowe could turn around the team’s fortunes after playing Gaborone United (GU) there last Friday.

“It makes a business sense to move to Serowe. ECCO commands a large following in the central region because (villages of) Letlhakane, Palapye, Mahalapye and the better part of Tswapong are closer to Serowe,” he said.

Although Ditsheko could not disclose how much they made from the gate takings against GU, he said it was better compared to what they have been making in Francistown.

He is of the belief that the players will be motivated upon realising that a number of supporters are now attending their games.

ECCO became the first club from the north to win the Premier League title when they swept to glory in 2007.

But, things have since changed and the team is now fighting tooth and nail for survival.
