A previous attempt to hold the meeting, a fortnight ago, failed as the affiliates could not form a quorum. The Saturday meeting was held at the Botswana College of Agriculture (BCA) in Sebele.

BODA president, Basil January urged affiliates to increase their commitment so that the sport could grow.

Meanwhile, BODA public relations officer, Motsholathebe Kutoro said the meeting was held to update teams from the south about recent developments.

He said teams from the north have not subscribed to the association, an issue they intend to address. He said some of the northern teams have not been committed but the association wants to motivate them.

He said the south affiliates were briefed about the national team’s participation in the Zone VI tournament in Zimbabwe towards the end of last year.

The Botswana team finished third and scooped numerous individual gold medals.

The meeting also deliberated on the forthcoming Youth Championships to be held in Namibia in August.

BODA officials said they had also submitted proposal for sponsorships and were waiting for response from potential backers.

The BODA southern region league does not have a sponsor.

Kutoro said they also discussed the issue of venues.

“We do not have neutral venues.   The venues that we are using like the Prisons and BDF mess are associated with alcohol trading.

“Our challenge is finding venues where alcohol is not served,” he explained. The public relations officer  revealed they also want to come up with a youth development programme and the first step would be to lobby schools to introduce darts in their sport activities.

During submission of the financial statement at the meeting, Kutoro said the subvention they received annually from the Botswana National Sport Council (BNSC) is not sufficient to run their affairs.

He said they intend to raise funds to supplement the BNSC grant.   He mentioned lack of financial resources as one of the main challenges they are faced with.  Meanwhile, the BODA southern league kicked off last week.  The organisation has introduced a singles league where individual players face each other.
