BMD youth league members attack each other

Mphafe said the current BMD youth league had not established relations with structures such as Botswana National Youth Council (BNYC) to engage them in empowering youth. “The current youth league leadership continues to attack and sabotage potential youth in our movement.

They see them as a threat rather than as pillars of our movement,” Mphafe wrote on Facebook. He also dismissed the current president, Phenyo Segokgo and his remaining three active members, saying they were clueless on the needs of the youth. “They are ignorant to pertinent issues such as dwindling education results, youth unemployment, corruption and alcohol abuse.

They do not care. There is poor understanding of party policies on the part of the incumbent BMDYL president, Segokgo.

This is why he continues to portray BMD as some sort of Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) faction. It was embarrassing to hear him on live radio stating that there is nothing wrong with BDP policies.

The question is, if there is nothing wrong with the current BDP policies, then why do we exist as BMD? Why do we exist as UDC?” he wrote.

Mphafe further said the outgoing youth league had failed to form a treasury with a clear fundraising strategy, adding that the committee had never given fundraising priority, which had compromised the youth even where they had potential, because there was a shortage of funds. “The outgoing youth league lacked coordination and hardly held strategy meetings in three years in office.

This incapacitated the youth league, leaving only a couple of individuals serving the party in their personal capacities,” he said. Mphafe also said the youth league also operated without set goals and targets, adding that for the past three years the current BMDYL existed; they had never formed a quorum, adding that their scheduled meetings failed because there was no commitment on their part.

Meanwhile, the current BMD youth league president Segokgo said he was aware of Mphafe’s attack on him on the online social site.

“I believe this is one of the strategies that Mphafe is using when he campaigns because our youth league congress is coming up soon. I advise my fellow comrade to learn the BMD culture: we do not address our issues to Facebook or through the media,” he said.

He added that if the BMD youth felt he had not done enough during his tenure, they would have expressed this at the past congress.
