The man, aged 26-years, according to the police, was found by passers-by on Sunday morning on the road passing by Tshimotharo-Broadhurst.

This immediately raised suspicions from members of the public who took to social media that he might have been killed and then dumped in a nearby trench.

However Station Commander for Broadhurst Superintendent Bonosi Molapisi confirmed the incident but dismissed rumours that the man was killed and dumped.

He said preliminary investigations showed that the man was hit by a car and as such probably died from the impact.

Molapisi added that the man was not even in or near a trench when they found him, but was rather by the roadside where he might have been thrown by the car on impact.

“I can confirm that he was killed as a result of being hit by a car. He was not killed and dumped as many people would like to believe.

“We received a call on Sunday morning about a man lying near the road, and when we got there, we realised he had been hit by a car,”  he said.

Molapisi pointed out that he was not sure when the deceased was hit by the car, adding that investigations were still ongoing to determine what could have possibly happened.

He however said they have a suspect who, although not remanded and not formally charged, was helping with the investigations.

“A 46-year-old man handed himself to us just a few hours after the body was found and we are yet to charge him as he is still helping us with the investigations,”  he said.

Quizzed on possible charge for the suspect, Molapisi said once investigations are done, they will be able to know what charge the suspect might face.
