Police wait on attempted passion killing victim

Reports say the woman’s 29-year-old boyfriend from Siga in Ramotswa attempted to kill her on Tuesday last week.

Ramotswa Police Station commander, Mothusi Phadi said they have not been able to speak to the victim who is the only one who can tell them what happened. “She is still unable to speak at the moment due to the injuries she sustained,” he said.

The boyfriend reportedly used a wire to hang himself from the rafters of his house after attempting to kill his lover. Neighbours say they came to visit their friend (the deceased) when they found his door locked. When they peeped through the window, they noticed a body hanging from the rafters.

Phadi said they had a phone call from the deceased’ neighbours around 10am notifying them that they had seen a corpse hanging from the rafters in a certain house.

When police arrived, they found a woman lying in a pool of blood, with the deceased hanging from the rafters. “It appeared like the deceased tried to kill his girlfriend and after the fight, he thought she was dead and committed suicide,” said Phadi.

The police took the woman to Ramotswa Hospital before she was transferred to Marina. Phadi said the couple, who have a six-year-old daughter, had reportedly spent the previous night at the woman’s place. The boyfriend was laid to rest on Sunday in Ramotswa.
