The Bobonong-born performer is no stranger to the Zimbabwean entertainment scene. She has performed at plenty of the music festivals in the neighbouring country.

Slizer was invited to perform at the statesman’s birthday party through her manager.

“I think the reason why they called me is because they like me. I have performed there before so I have a growing fan base in the country,” she said. The singer confirmed that she composed a birthday song for the Zimbabwean president, which she sang at the event. “The song is different to what I usually do.  It’s a jazz song. The crowd was a bit disappointed with the song, because it is slower as compared to my usual songs.”

The O Tswa Kae hit-maker said the decision to perform at Mugabe’s party was not political.

“I have performed in neighbouring countries such as Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa before, so the decision to perform at the party was not politically motivated at all,” she explained.

The million-dollar party was as extravagant as people had expected. For his 91st birthday, the ZANU-PF leader decided to treat guests to game meat, which included an elephant, two young buffaloes, two sables, and five impalas.
