Ketlogetse Makwanye’s life was changed recently when she was given the keys to a two-bedroomed house. Prior to the handover, she had spent most of her life living in a shack built with a couple of bricks about 1.5 meters high and three meters wide, along with her five grandchildren.

Dico Bademhorsft, owner of Filtration Africa who were one of the major sponsors of the project, said that when he first came to Makwanye’s home he could not believe his eyes and did not think that there were people still living in such conditions in modern times.

“What I saw that time was heart breaking. Makwanye crawled in and out of what she called home. I just could not sit back and watch and that’s when I then pledged to work with Gareitiri to be part of the project,” he said. Bademhorsft said that when people’s lives are changed their future and hope is changed as well, returning their family values. He said that as foreigners doing business is Botswana, they should show gratitude to what the country is doing for them by giving part of the portion of their returns to Batswana.

“You can have what you want as long as you help other people get what they want,” said Bademhorsft.

Guest speaker at the event, Francistown East legislator, Buti Billy appreciated Gareitiri’s good work and noted that the club had decided to engage in activities other than social soccer.

“This initiative should be applauded because it is rare for a social club to do a job of such magnitude. I hope other football clubs can copy that,” he said.

He urged other business entities not to specialise in lining their pockets, but rather sharing and showing compassion to the needy. “Companies like Filtration Africa share their profits with the needy and believe me they will never get robbed. These (robberies) are stories common only in companies that eat alone, “ Billy pointed out.

He urged Makwanye to look after her new beautiful house and advised her not to allow people, more especially unscrupulous relatives, to take over her new home.

“This is your house Makwanye given it to you by God. Treasure it and be against those who will want to ruin it. They will start inviting themselves over just to cause conflicts,” explained Billy.
