Botswana expedition cut short: Masters

“The decision to mutually terminate the contract of employment was not based on any wrongdoing on the part of the association nor of Masters.

“The decision was purely based on the interest of both parties and what was best for the development football in Botswana,” Sebego said in a statement.

Just before his contract was terminated, Masters was reportedly questioned over possession of pornographic material and large amounts of Viagra, a controlled substance.

Masters was hired as BFA CEO in February 2013 on a three year contract, arriving from England with an impressive CV.  He had experience as the CEO of the Kent Football Association in England and was expected to drive the commercialisation of the local game.

“The association wishes Mr Masters success in his future endeavours and express its gratitude for his contribution to the Association as well as commitment to its programmes,” reads the statement.

Susan Lawrence has been appointed acting CEO with effect from March 1, 2015.

It is unclear when a new CEO would be hired, but it is expected that a local would be preferred.

Sebego said the process of recruitment would start immediately as the association battles to halt the high turnover of CEOs.
