The Minister said their intention is to address lack of shelter for some Batswana who do not have homes. He said the remaining 152 housing units were at different stages of construction countrywide.

“These houses are carryovers and were an allocation for years 2012/13 and 2013/14. With the 2014/15 financial year, all the 242 are currently at various stages of implementation. All the houses, including the backlogs, are expected to be completed in 2015/16 financial year,” Tsogwane said.

He, however, said his ministry managed to complete all the backlog of 222 destitute houses that were allocated to the remote area communities in 2012/13 financial year.

The Minister revealed that 141 of the 195 houses that were allocated for the 2013/14 are complete with the remaining 54 houses at different stages of completion.

He said 221 houses for financial year 2014/15 are also at different stages of implementation.

The Minister said 2015/16 financial year, his ministry would construct 200 more houses countrywide and another 2000 houses in the seven remote area communities districts.

“People who benefit from this programme are usually disadvantaged elders and some youth who do not have parents and place to stay. There is progress in my ministry and in years to come many Batswana will have what they call homes,” he said.
