Shock as 811 dismissed from public service since 2010

The Assistant Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration Philip Makgalemele said, of these 417 were permanent and pensionable and 394 were former industrial class employees.
“There is another category of employees who are employed on contract terms, of which zero were summarily dismissed,” said Makgalemele.
Some of the reasons for the dismissals were habitual negligence of duty, offering or receiving a bribe and falsifying records used for official purposes.
Others are willful disobedience of lawful orders given by the employer, persistent absence from work without permission and acts of theft, misappropriation of government property and willful dishonesty against government, another employee, or client of government.
The minister also disclosed that 114 employees have litigated against their dismissals.
“There have been 26 employees who have been reinstated.”
Makgalemele was responding to questions from Selebi-Phikwe West MP, Dithapelo Keorapetse who wanted to know the number of civil servants who have been summarily dismissed under Section 27 of the Public Service Act since 2010.
Keorapetse had also wanted the minister to state the category of the employees dismissed in terms of the ministries and the reasons for their dismissals.
He also wanted to know the number of those who have litigated against the dismissals and the number of those who were reinstated.
