Phishing scammers attack Bank Gaborone

The widely circulated emails are actually from criminal hackers who phish for credit card and bank account numbers, passwords and other financial information on customers’ cellphones, computers and tablets.
According to the marketing and communications manager of the bank, Sandra Mokobi they have notified clients of the existence of the fraudulent e-mails, via its website, and so far there has been no reported cases of customers suffering financial losses.
“The bank has processes and policies in place to deal with matters of fraud and accordingly the relevant systems have been triggered.
We have not received reports from our customers that they have responded to the fraudulent e-mails and disclosed their banking details and subsequently suffered financial loss,” she said.
Mokobi added that the bank would never request clients to provide their personal details or update their account profiles through e-mail communication.
Clients have also been urged not to click on website links attached to these emails.
“Clients are further advised that when conducting banking transactions through Internet Banking, there is the risk of a fraudster accessing your information online. Therefore, always make sure your computer, laptop, cell phone or tablet’s anti-virus, spyware and firewall protection is active and up- to-date,” she added. 0The phishing scam is the latest form of banking fraud to hit the industry, after the widespread card skimming cases experienced in the past few years.
