However, it wasn’t an overnight success but the result of hard work, passion and resilience. Starvilla started pushing his music career in Germany 13 years ago. “My attraction and long-term relationship with hip-hop sparked in the early 90’s, while I was still living in Botswana,” he said.

When he relocated to Germany in 2002, to work as a nurse, he met an underground Low Saxon based hip-hop group, he was introduced to by a friend. “Working with this hip-hop group gave me exposure as I was featured in many music videos.

This exposure also made me realise that I could actually go out and succeed as a solo artist,” he said.

Ten years later, Starvilla who is also a songwriter, started developing interest to start fusing electro music with hip-hop. “I still hold the dream to change the state of hip-hop in Africa through this electro, especially at home in Botswana,” he said.

In 2013, he finally decided to branch out to a solo career. He released two tracks, Way To The Top, and Don’t Give Up. He also released videos for the two songs, followed by a single titled Back To Life. This latter single marked a new chapter in his music career as the song received airplay on most radio stations across Germany.

“I started getting many bookings since the release of the hit single. I was excited about the recognition that I got because most of my songs have motivational messages that I am trying to send out to the youth,” he said.

Starvilla explained that his music touches on different life challenges and circumstances young people find themselves in and how to overcome them, as well as stick to their vision and goals.  “What makes my music unique is that my lyrics explore issues of self-motivation and hope, and inspire the youth,” he said.
