Miss Culture and Peace scheduled for March at Mantlwaneng

Miss Culture and Peace International Botswana licence holder, Thokgamo Mogapi, explained that the pageant seeks to promote different cultures as well as peace. She said the pageant is a platform where different countries come together to share and learn about each other’s culture to promote tolerance amongst them regardless of differences in their practices.
She explained that the local pageant has 14 young women aged between 18 and 24, who come from different tribes, including Babirwa, Kalangas, Balete, Bakgalagadi, Bakgatla, and Bakwena. She said since the pageant concentrates on promoting peace and cultural tolerance, she found it fit for the pageant to be as inclusive as possible. She said the young women would display culture on stage on the day of the pageant.
She explained that the fairest one from the pageant would represent the country in the Miss Culture and Peace International to be held from October 17 to 25, 2015 in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.
She explained that the local queen would have to do a project, which encompasses peace and culture. She said the queen is supposed to come up with her own project, which can be working with a charity organisation or with the youth.
She further explained that the queen at the international leg of the pageant would promote Botswana as a whole, in areas such as tourism and culture. She said in line with the pageant’s title she wants the queen to represent the local culture as much as possible, explaining that the evening gown, which is going to be worn by the queen on stage, will have bits and pieces of the leteisi (German print).
Miss Culture and Peace International started in 2014 and Antonella Garrone from Argentina won the crown. The inaugural pageant featured 11 countries.
