Funds sourced for headmen of arbitration

He told Parliament last week that his ministry had been failing to pay those dikgosi due to funding constraints. Now the funds have been secured, he said, but did not disclose how much was sourced.

 “This we believe will go a long way in ensuring Bogosi continues to be relevant. We have communicated with them that we will clear their debts very soon. The aim of my ministry is to improve and resource tribal administration. To respond to the resource plight, we started refurbishing a number of Dikgotla from 2013/14 financial year,” Tsogwane revealed.

He said they managed to purchase 45 vehicles and distributed to Dikgotla during the 2013/14 financial year and envisaged purchasing 25 more vehicles for 2014/15 financial year.

Tsogwane said the ministry, in collaboration with Botswana Public Service College, plans capacity building for tribal administration.

He said they have upgraded 14 headmen of arbitration positions to Court of Records and 11 have been recommended for appointment while consultations are ongoing for the remaining three.

Meanwhile, Tsogwane said they have also introduced a disability allowance to support people with disabilities.

“Provision of this allowance to those eligible will be effected from April 1st. My ministry will continue to offer support to all those who become vulnerable to economic shocks in an effort to promote dignity and self-development.”

He said people living with disability would be paid P300.00 every month and they would be identified through the help of social workers.

“We will also have appeal committee for members of the public or parents to make appeal if their family members have been excluded without being given reasons. It would benefit mostly those who cannot bring food to the table because of their disability,” he said.

He said they would get their money through the post offices and where there is no Poso, the money will be collected at the Kgotla.
