Love in the new age

That was love then, however funny as it sounds, in the new era we do it the Fifty Shades Of Grey way.  This movie is a 2015 American erotic romantic drama film based on British author E. L. James’ bestselling novel of the same name.  The book is a trilogy hence Fifty Shades Of Grey is the first part whilst Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed are the expected sequels.

This hugely anticipated movie of 2015 stares rising actors Dakota Johnson as the beautiful vulnerable (Anastasia Steele) and Jamie Dornan plays (Christian Grey) a wealthy businessman, who is also control freak.

These two leading role characters are not your typical Hollywood top shot actors, but they brought the house down with unimaginable performances, Dakota Johnson’s reputable works include performing in the 2014 action thriller Need for Speed whilst her counterpart can be associated with Marie Antoinnete a (2006) drama as well.

This film got lovers drooling on Valentine’s Day.

A not-so-popular female director, Sam Taylor-Johnson, having directed less successful films amongst others Love You More (2008), surprisingly directed Fifty Shades Of Grey making it her breakthrough. Fifty Shades Of Grey is a beautiful must-see movie because of a number of factors though one can emphasise that the flick depicts reality in so many ways.  Best begin with sharing with you what goes down in the film to give you a clue about this film.  When Anastasia Steele, a literature student, goes to interview the wealthy Christian Grey as a favour to her roommate Kate Kavanagh, she encounters a beautiful, brilliant and intimidating man.  The innocent and naive Ana starts to realise she wants him.

Despite his enigmatic reserve and advice, she finds herself desperate to get close to him.  Not able to resist Ana’s beauty and independent spirit, Christian Grey admits he wants her too, but on his own terms.  Ana hesitates as she discovers the singular tastes of Christian Grey - despite the embellishments of success, his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, and his loving family, Grey is consumed by the need to control everything.

Fifty Shades Of Grey as a romantic drama explores the essential themes of love stories particularly love at first sight as Ana (Dakota Johnson) and Grey (Jamie Dornan) accidentally meet during the interview and fall for one another.

Other themes involved are obsessive love (Grey obsessed with his newly found bedroom toy) as well as sexual and passionate love because the film revolves around love driven by sex.

There is also too much nudity in the film making it very erotic.

All in all, romantic films serve as great escapes and fantasies for viewers, which maybe explain the huge turnout the movie received during the weekend being sold out as couples wanted to relate with their love experiences.

When watching this film you can pick a lot of things that relate to relationships in our generation.  We have even developed terms such as Sugar Daddy/Mummy, Friends with Benefits as well as No Strings Attached simply because of such relationships like the one we see in Fifty Shades Of Grey where by one partner holds an upper hand over another.

We call it the new school, love in the new age/millennium, though some will be in denial but it is the naked truth.

Also just to mention that apart from that where people get into a bond seeking different things for satisfaction.  Though in the film Anastasia falls in love with the man for his irresistible charm, in real life this Hollywood blockbuster is relatable as women end up being used as sex pets like Ana (Dakota Johnson) was, simply because they bit more than they can chew.  Hence Fifty Shades Of Grey is meaningful and informative as it teaches one to sometimes settle for what you can afford or be with someone of the same league as yourself for a greater mutual benefit.

It sets a great deal of expectations for the film’s sequels scheduled for release next year.

Apart from all the naughty playful behaviour of this Fifty Shades Of Grey, we truly learnt that a man’s tie is a very useful powerful tool, mark key word (learnt/educated) how the tie works. Get to watch for yourself.   Interesting movie quote - ∆Anastasia Steele: Why are you trying to change me? Christian Grey: I’m not.  It’s you that’s changing me.   As for the reception, this movie has managed to top the box office chart on its first week in circuit as it amassed a whooping weekend premiere gross of $93 million plus an additional foreign cinema reception of $172 million making a combined sum of $265 million over one weekend as it had a worldwide premiere.

Here are this week’s top five hottest movies at the box office:

1. Fifty Shades

2. Kingsmen: The Secret Service

Drama films are always on point because they explore passion, emotions and other barriers that threaten to break unions of love as was the case in 2014’s successful drama film Gone Girl. Fifty Shades is no different.  It gets an 8/10 appreciation.
