Speaking at the launch of D&O Digital proprietary LTD, this week, Boshwaen noted that an innovation had no value until an ambitious entrepreneur builds a business model, which turns it into a product or service that customers would buy.

“If you can’t turn an innovative idea into something that creates a customer, then it’s worthless. Our problem is not that there isn’t enough innovation. It is that we do not have enough entrepreneurs starting new businesses,” he said.

D&O is a citizen company in partnership with Lobodms, a German document management company equipped with major functions and features.

Boshwaen explained that based on the latest technology, it is one of the most innovative products on the market, eliminates paperwork and provides the best solutions to optimise work processes.

Boshwaen also said BIH would go ahead with implementation of the innovation fund, which will serve as seed funding for innovative technology projects, assisting with prototyping to attract the next level of investors. “I can attest that innovation is truly happening in Botswana, but it needs more support to grow further,” he said.

D&O managing director, Orefitlhetse Masire said the company had identified an opportunity to fill in the electronic sector. She revealed that government has legislated an e-government policy, which would be central to efficient service delivery and improved corporate governance.

Masire further said successes had been posted in areas such as e-passport and other online services, but document management was still lagging behind both in the public service and the private sector. “We have seen an opportunity to fill this gap using proven system like lobodms. Our vision is to create a paperless office here by 2020.

Botswana has to get onto the international digital highway. We believe that together with Botswana Fibre Network and Botswana Innovation Hub, we can make it possible,” she said.

Masire added that benefits of digital documentation included cost saving, improved customer service, improved corporate governance and security.

“Today’s employees need full, real time access to information and we believe that Lobodms delivers mobile productivity without compromising security,” she said.
