Senyatso puts final touches to debut album

On stage, the young musician has demonstrated some glimpses of the magic shown by his father, Duncan.  Still he has to prove his mettle with studio work and that indeed music runs in the Senyatso family. Those who have seen him perform are waiting anxiously to hear his recorded music and now the wait will soon be over.

The young Senyatso is putting final touches to his debut album titled, Tlhako Ya Morago, which is due for release in March.

Tlhako Ya Morago loosely translated means Like Father Like Son and the young man says he feels obligated to continue his father’s legacy.

Interestingly, Genius is also doing jazz music just like his father.  “I am not under pressure to be like him and I am not going to try and be him, but what I want to do is honour his memory by creating good music.  I know the fans have waited with bated breath for my album, but I can promise them good quality sound once it comes out,” he said.  Senyatso sings about preserving culture, and promoting peace and unity as well as tourism.  The jazz musician started recording the album last September. He planned to release it by December, but due to lack of funds he had to halt the project. “I record music live and that is more expensive than programming.  Session artists are also expensive, so it has been difficult for me, but thank God I am just about to finish now. I decided to record live because I want the music to feel the same on CD as on stage,” he said.
