Miss Universal Petite Botswana donates toiletries, clothing

This was her first partnership with a charity organisation, since she was crowned Miss Universal Petite Botswana last June. She said she particularly chose to donate on Valentine’s Day, as it is a day set aside globally to celebrate love.

“I personally have love for children, hence why I saw the need to spend time with them and show love to these physically and mentally challenged children as they need to be shown love the most,” Mariri said.

She further said that she worked with students from Kgale Hill and Molefhi Senior Secondary Schools on the project. Mariri explained that involving the students was her way of showing the importance of loving and caring for others as it is essential in each and every community.

“This was basically to encourage the spirit of giving at a tender age and to teach them to give back to the community whenever they can,” Mariri said.  An organisation called Shake Hands donated pampers, while members of the public donated other items.  Mariri is preparing for her trip to Miami, United States of America, where she will take part in the international pageant scheduled for July.  Mariri, however, told Showbiz that her trip is highly dependent on whether she will be able to get sponsorship for accommodation, flight tickets, and other necessities.

She told Showbiz that she approached the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture for sponsorship, but was unfortunately turned down due to lack of funds.

Mariri said she hopes private companies and individuals will come on board and help sponsor her trip, where she will represent the country at the international stage.
