All surface bowls boost for BBA

 

BBA president, Kitso Robert said with bowling greens found only in towns, potential talent in other areas is sidelined.

He explained that the bowls would assist BBA develop the sport across the country. Robert said the new bowls could be used in venues such as tennis courts.

He said BBA would deploy its members to various places to conduct coaching clinics in schools during the hand out of the bowls.

Robert explained there is talent in schools as evidenced by the high number of youngsters who have joined different clubs across the country.

Meanwhile, Orapa Bowls Club won the first competition of the year, the Roses tournament, which was hosted by the Gaborone Bowls Club.

The Orapa team had Robert, Abel Sikwane, Deliwe Kitsiso and Gobe Batshana. The team won with six points with a six shots difference from second placed Selebi Phikwe that finished with five points plus a difference of 22 shots.

Oabona Motladiile, Diane Senna, John Gaborutwe and Nelly Senna represented Selebi-Phikwe. The hosts, represented by Tibone Fox, Chacks Robert, Ash Ashbridge and Kabo Gaboutloeloe were third with four points and a 16 shots difference.

In the final round, Phikwe A team beat Jwaneng B team by 24 to 12 shots while Francistown B team beat Gaborone A team by 16 to 14 shots.  Orapa A team won against Gaborone B team by 19 to 18 shots and Francistown A team walloped Phikwe B team by 27 shots to seven shots.

Orapa B team beat Francistown C team by 16 to 11 shots while Gaborone C team hammered Phikwe C team by 38 to six shots.

Jwaneng A team beat Orapa C team by 18 to 15 shots. Francistown club was the defending champion after winning the competition last year and 2013.
