Maipelo steals the show at Play Fest

The 12-year-old brought Gaborone Club to a stand still when she backed her big brother, Yarona FM DJ Kgosi, ‘DJ Casper’ Sabone on his set. Maipelo calmly played along to the DJ’s set of different genres, which ranged from House music to RnB, without making any mistakes.

Revellers were mesmerised as they rushed to take picture and videos of the young girl who was on her maiden live show performance.

After the masterpiece performance Showbiz had a chat with Maipelo who said she was very nervous before her performance, but she managed to gain some confidence after DJ Casper gave her some motivational words. The rising star said she started playing the African instrument when she was nine years old, after taking some music lessons at Phakalane Primary School where she is schooling. She said DJ Casper influenced her to take her music expertise professionally after noticing her extraordinary skill with Marimba.

The young artist, who can also play the piano and a flute, said she is able to play the Marimba tune of any song.

“I first listen to the song and master the keys,” she said.

Her big brother DJ Casper could not hide his excitement after their maiden performance as a duo. He said they are planning to work on a number of music projects together and they want to come up with a name for the duo but at the moment they are called the Sabone family.

He said because of Maipelo’s age they schedule their performances on an earlier slot so that she does not get exposed to disturbing scenes that usually take place at night gigs.
