No BOPEU seat in new BOFEPUSO committee

The BOPEU vice president Sikalame Seitiso   was nominated by his union for the position of the federation president but the other four affiliates of BOFEPUSU did not second his nomination.

The other BOFEPUSU members are Botswana Land Board and Local Authorities and Health Workers Union (BLLAHWU), Botswana Sectors of Educators Trade Union (BOSETU), Botswana Teachers Union (BTU) and National Amalgmated Local and Central Government and Parastatal Workers Union (NALCGPWU).

Seitsiso was then nominated and seconded for the position of vice president but declined. The trend repeated itself for other positions.

Likewise BOPEU’s choices for the positions of publicity secretary Onkemetse Mokone, Tlotlang Bakoko for secretary for occupational health and Kagiso Mooketsane for secretary for research and information were also not seconded for their nominations.

Since the lobby lists of other four BOFEPUSU affiliates were similar, the other nominations were elected unopposed.

Meanwhile Johannes Tshukudu of BTU is the new federation president taking over from Masego Mogwera of BOPEU who did not seek re-election. Tobokani Rari of BOSETU was re-elected unopposed for the position of secretary general. His deputy is Ketlhalefile Motshegwa of BLLAHWU who was also re-elected unopposed.

The veteran Johnson Motshwarakgole of NALCGPWU also retained his position as secretary for labour. His comrade from Manual Workers Union, Samuel Molaodi also retained his previous post as secretary for education. The new publicity secretary is Mogomotsi Motshegwa of BOSETU while Disang Mokwape of  BLLAHWU is the secretary for research and information.

Meanwhile Rari said  the withdrawal of BOPEU nominations from the race was reasonable to him. “For instance Seitiso declined the vice presidency nominations because his union did not send him to seek that position.” said Rari.

Rari dismissed criticism that during this congress without any constitutional amendments four unions leaders agreed on block voting contrary to the Constitution of the federation. “We did not come to a point where there was voting. Issues ended with nominations,” he explained.
