Rotary club donates to the blind

Eighty-two visually impaired children who came from all over the country to access the resources, which are only offered in Mochudi, are the beneficiaries. Thirty- two of them are Pre School children aged between 3- 6 years old. The Director of Mochudi Resource Centre For The Blind (MRCB), Sophie Moalosi applauded Gaborone Rotary Club for their gesture. The centre was only able to accommodate 32 children before the Rotary Club started helping them in 1972, but now with the help, they can accommodate more children.
The Rotary Club in Sweden provided Gaborone Rotary Club with money amounting to
P110 000, which was used to buy the donated brail machines. President of Gaborone Rotary Club, John Cunliffe said through the initiative ‘Donate a Can’, the club was also able to collect foodstuff from the public at various supermarket outlets in Gaborone. Other organisations such as Bana Ba Keletso and Stepping Stone Botswana have also benefited from the same club with the aid of wheel chairs among others. Among the people who witnessed the donation members of Bakgatla royalty, the area councilor and Member of Parliament (MP) for Kgatleng West, Gilbert Mangole who emphasised the need for government to take a lead in ensuring that the disabled people are well taken care of. He said in the past when Botswana was still undeveloped, the Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) did a great job taking a lead and supporting these people now it is time for the government to lead. Furthermore, he added that there is a bill, which is yet to be discussed in parliament to find ways in which the disabled people in the country can be well taken care of by the government.
Kgosi Segale of Bakgatla challenged local churches to come forward and rescue the needy residents of Mochudi, adding that evidence of the needy in Mochudi was glaring.
