She said the technical and development assistance Botswana had received from the Chinese government had contributed immensely to the country’s national progress.

Venson-Moitoi said the seriousness with which Botswana takes its relations with China was characterised by the high-level exchange visits undertaken by the respective leaders over the years. This therefore was an opportune time to reflect on both nations’ successes and challenges, and chart a path to long lasting beneficial relations.

“Our government will do its best to take our bilateral cooperation to greater heights. Friendship based on trust, mutual understanding and partnership can never fail,” she said.  The China ambassador to Botswana, Zheng Zhuqiang, said close political exchanges and cooperation had laid a solid foundation for their bilateral relations. He said both government’ leaders attached great importance to China-Botswana relations.

Zhuqiang also said the two countries’ fast growing economic and trade cooperation had served as the driving force in boosting bilateral ties. “Vigorous people-to-people and cultural exchanges have played an essential role in our bilateral relations,” he said. The ambassador added that through joint efforts, China-Botswana relations would bring more tangible benefits to the two nations.
